Q1: How can I find and fulfill the mission, the purpose of my life?

A1: It is very important for people to discover their life purpose. What happens is that you do not have clarity and you also use your head to think and discover your purpose in life. You might think there is no harm in that. But even if you do not think there can be more clarity, you should take inside yourself: I do not have clarity. And just stay with it. You should not move out of it. And then, from the bottom of your being, you know exactly what is the mission and purpose of your life.

For example, when Gandhi was alive and moving around the country, he did not know how to make India independent. What to do? The British were a tremendous force. And it was not by violence. And he did not know what to do. So he just sat with the truth of that: I do not know. And in a few months, until a given day, suddenly, the thought came to him, we should boycott the British salt. This was a very funny idea. It was a great empire, and become free of that empire? Boycotting the salt. And he thought: yes, that's it. He began playing the mission, and soon billions joined him. And finally we became independent.

This idea is not something we can conceive. What we think about. No. You just get the fact: I do not know. Then suddenly, deep truth, it comes. This happens to any individual, because if you keep quiet, a huge processing occurs inside. If you keep thinking and fighting, you destroy this process. If you just stay quiet, just put this input: I do not know, I wonder - do it, and wait.

Just stay quiet. Sometimes the land must be untouched for a while before you begin to grow something new. So it becomes nourished. Likewise, you must be quiet, quiet activity, not indifferent or asleep. Just stay with the fact that you do not know. You must be intensely aware of it, then it comes. You bring it to light, and if you follow this, you will never, can never fail. So this is how you will discover your purpose in life.

Q2: Sometimes there is a conflict within me, use more of my time to help others grow in consciousness, or use more of my time to earn more money to survive and get a more comfortable life. How could I have a balance between the mundane and spiritual?

A2: Well, suppose you have some work to do, and while you're hungry. The best thing would be to eat first, and then do the job. Similarly, you have needs of self. It is more appropriate to first meet your needs before you get to help others. It is very natural, right and proper fit your needs.

If you do not, then what you do after is what is called: because ?? cultivated. Virtue must be something natural, not cultivated. That is why in Oneness we say, if you are not enlightened, do not behave like this. When you're not awake, do not behave like you are. You have your needs, then why should you focus on other people? It will not work. Your being must be expressed, and your hunger to be filled. And the most curious thing is that you will find that after you have completed your requirements, you will have a natural desire to help others. Not that you force yourself, or something that is contrived, not that you apply or use your willpower, no. Naturally you're going to help others. This is the moment when you will help others. And you become selfless.

Until then, be self-centered. Being self-centered is not wrong. The only thing is that the ego expresses itself in very dangerous ways, it means that you should not be self-centered (acting for your own benefit). You may sometimes think I am expressing myself, but this cannot be self-interest. That's what you should be careful. There is nothing wrong with expressing yourself and also going to help others on the spiritual path, because you feel so fulfilled. This longing is gone, you go to the next step, and your spirit begins to grow. But never deplete your being, and go help others. You're in big trouble sooner or later if you do. So, please, express yourselves. source

Contemplative Questions

Here is a set of questions that would provoke you and put you through some soul searching. They are not about religion nor about ethics. They are merely about you.

They are not meant to serve as solutions nor are they meant to lead you anywhere. These questions are meant to serve as tools to discovering yourself.

1) Do you perceive the Presence of a benevolent force guiding, protecting and shaping your life? What name do you give that Presence? When did you best feel this Presence?

2) What is your opinion of God? Is your opinion drawn from religion, books, parents and or your personal experience of life?

3) Do you pray? Do they get answered? How often?

4) Do you think it is possible to relate to the Divine? What relationship would you opt?

5) Here is a story for you - Two fierce enemies once did a penance to placate god and receive boons vying with each other. God appeared to the first man and asked what he wanted. He said "give me twice of whatever you give my enemy". Then God appeared to the second one. Even before God could say anything he asked, "God, would you please tell me what my enemy asked for? On knowing his prayer request, he said, "then God, blind me in one eye."
Now what would you wish for yourself, your best friend and your worst enemy if God gave you a chance?

6) Have you ever experienced a coincidence or chance that seems to have involved so many people and factors that you can't stop wondering if a mastermind was behind this operation? If yes, do you savour the experience often and have you shared it with someone close to you?
